Two of the biggest names in Afrobeats music sent shock waves around the internet with the release of a new video.
Afrobeats trailblazer Wizkid teamed up with Roc Nation songstress Tiwa Savage for ‘Malo,’ a sonically pleasing track with an iconic video to match. The theme of the video is centred around a dark jungle underground featuring dancers, pool players, tattoo artists and party-goers enjoying the African vibe.
The catchy song is produced by top Afrobeats producer Spellz and is directed by Alabi from JM Films production. Tiwa Savage, often referred to as the ‘Beyonce of Africa,’ happens to be the first Nigerian artist signed to Roc Nation – Jay Z’s management company. The songstress is back on track following quite a public marital feud with her husband and the release of the video from her album ‘Sugarcane’ may mark a new chapter for the Afrobeats star who seems to have moved past her personal issues.
Wizkid adds his own stamp to the track, effortlessly rhyming over the hook and drawing in his global following to the video which has racked up over one million views in less than a week and is one of the fastest downloaded tracks in African history. Following on from his collaborations with Drake on ‘One Dance’ and ‘Come Closer’ as well as a sell out show at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, it is clear that African culture and Afrobeats have taken the global stage.
