Moment of the Week – Beyonce and Jay Z announce they are expecting twins
This week the internet went into complete meltdown when Beyonce masterfully announced to the world that she was pregnant with twins in an Instagram post. In what was a PR masterclass, Beyonce posted a photo on Instagram nearly bearing it all with the caption: ‘We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes.’
The post which is now the most liked photograph on Instagram (it has over 9 million likes) was followed by a series of powerful images captured by photographer Awol Erizku and were published on the superstar’s website.
We suspect that this overt display of her pregnancy is not only symbolic of her happiness but also to make a point. When Beyonce was pregnant with her first daughter Blue Ivy back in 2011, many conspiracy theorists accused her of faking her pregnancy and potentially using a surrogate; Beyonce did admit at one point she did have a miscarriage. However, the rumours of a fake pregnancy have since been dispelled and the couple can put other rumours such as their reported marriage problems to bed. The pregnancy photos take inspiration from classic paintings such as Botticelli’s ‘The Birth of Venus.’ Social media users certainly had fun with the images using them to create entertaining memes. We wish Jay and Bey best wishes for the pregnancy.
Video Of The Week: Ed Sheeran – ‘Shape of You’
Ed Sheeran completed his epic comeback this week with the release of his new ‘Shape Of You’ video. Having made history as the first artist to have two singles top the UK chart, the lovable singer sported a rough and rugged look in this ‘Rocky’ boxing themed video. The singer who took a hiatus from music last year, travelled to countries such as Ghana and Japan and is back with a bang ahead of the release of his third studio album. Speaking about his recent weight loss, the singer claims he shed 50 pounds from cutting booze out of his diet.
Sheeran will officially complete his comeback when he performs on Saturday Night Live on February 11th. The video, filmed in Seattle, plays with some interesting concepts such as sumo wrestling and even features a cameo by US rapper Macklemore, check it out below:
Album Of The Week: Big Sean – ‘I Decided’
Big Sean came into this album with a lot to prove. Highlighting how he had been consistently underrated in the week leading up to the album’s release, expectations were high for the rapper who seemingly has everything but for some reason doesn’t quite get the recognition he deserves. Sounding defiant and showcasing dynamic flows and hard – hitting punchlines ‘I Decided’ did it for Big Sean.’ Prominent features include Jeremih, Migos and most excitingly fellow Detroit Native Eminem who’s verse on the track ‘No Favours’ sparked both excitement and controversy. Other standout tracks include ‘Sunday Morning Jetpack’ and ‘Sacrifices’.
Winner: Dave – Brought Out by Drake at 02 arena London
Drake’s ‘Boy Meets The World’ tour reached London this week and there were some incredible moments. Drizzy brought with him the likes of Travis Scott and Young Thug and showed the UK scene love too by bringing out the likes of UK legend Giggs and up and coming Streatham rapper Dave. There was a wonderful moment when Drake brought out Dave to perform the remix of his song ‘Wanna Know,’ the track that Drizzy jumped on essentially made Dave a household name. What a moment for the eighteen-year-old.
Loser: Meek Mill
It’s hard not to think of Meek Mill without thinking of Drake. The rapper was clowned all week on social media after his ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj was pictured sitting on rival rapper’s Drake lap. Once the pictures surfaced, the internet had their fun reminding the rapper of his 2015 feud with Drake and the famous song ‘Back To Back’ which predicted Nicki leaving Meek.
