Despite the fact that Conor McGregor's next UFC match was practically confirmed last week, it would seem that the Irishman is also gearing up to step back into the boxing ring, this time with his ex-sparring partner, Paulie Malignaggi.
In the build up to McGregor's mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather, a recurring topic was the strain int he relationship between McGregor and Malignaggi. Malignaggi walked out of McGregor's camp after images of the retired boxer hitting the canvas surfaced on the internet. Malignaggi claimed that the images were an inaccurate representation of what actually happened.
Now Malignaggi is looking to get McGregor back into the boxing ring. He confirmed that talks regarding a potential bout are already in process between his manager Al Haymon and UFC president Dana White.
He said:"I know Al Haymon’s talking to Dana White. If they want the fight, they’ll make it ...I don’t need to do all of that because Al Haymon makes anything he wants happen, happen. The only way it doesn’t happen if this guy doesn’t have any balls."
He continued: "This fight will pay him more, this fight will get him more exposure – this fight is a bigger fight than anything else he has. There’s no more Mayweather fight, this is the biggest fight there is.”
In contrast to the Mayweather bought, McGregor is set to stand a much better chance of winning. We will have to wait and see whether the UFC titan will bite the bait.
