Inside the "Hamilton Mixtape"

Priority tickets for the musical ‘Hamilton' have been released fuelling excitement for the show.

Hamilton is a dynamic musical that tells the story about the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton; with a modernistic twist. The play is composed by Lin- Manuel Miranda, who is also known for his work for the play 'In the Heights’. As well as his various Tony awards for his acting endeavours. Miranda is a very multi-faceted artist, having indulged in the music industry through production and creation of musical content for plays such as’ 21 Chump Street’.

This is why the highly anticipated ‘Hamilton’ mixtape has been so well received. Following the cast album debuting at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart and accumulating over 2.1 million streams from digital services. It is clear that the Hamilton mixed tape had a lot to live up to. Having listened to the mixed tape a few times, it was very well composed and thought out. But this is no shock, as the mixtape is executive produced by Lin -Manuel Miranda. He is also accompanied by 'Black Thought' and 'Questlove' of the legendary Hip-Hop group 'The Roots'. Who have incorporated their signature eclectic sound, which is very prevalent in terms of production on the mixtape.

The mixtape enlists Hip Hop veterans: Nas and Common, Pop Idols: Sia and Kelly Clarkson and R&B artists: John Legend and Alicia Keys; amongst many other talented artists. Lin-Manuel Miranda also has a verse himself on the song 'Wrote My Way Out' in which he is accompanied by rap legend Nas. Ja Rule and Ashanti re-join forces to rework the plays song: 'Helpless'. There are many surprise guest appearances including Jimmy Fallon, just to name a few. Overall the collection is full of A List musicians from various different genres.

Following the release of the mixtape, the anticipation grew for the Hamilton musical to make its debut in London, it was announced that the play will be performed at the Victoria Palace Theatre at the end of 2017. General sale tickets will be available January 30th, for anyone that enjoys musical theatre with a hip hop undertones, then this is the play for you.
