Childish Gambino is releasing his next album

Childish has gone practically radio silent recently, but new music is on the way

8th Nov 2016

Childish has gone practically radio silent since he announced his Pharos event during the summer

We can understand why, given the work he has been producing the incredible series Atlanta. But one reddit User noticed yesterday that Gambino had his name next to an album poster titled ‘Awaken, My Love’.

The poster listed the release date of the album as December 2nd, and Amazon UK, Germany and Canada all have the album listed with the same release date on their servers. If this is true, then it will be his first official album release since STN MTN / Kauai in 2014.

Since that album, the Donald Glover and his girlfriend have welcomed their first child, he has been cast as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars, Spider-Man in next year’s ‘Spider Man: Homecoming’, and gone on to direct the series Atlanta. In the process, he has become one of the most recognisable multi-talented artists in the industry.

The album was originally supposed to be called Pharos, the same name as his September event. But it looks like he has abandoned that name.

Those who heard the snippets of the album at the Pharos event said that the project is going to show a “whole different Gambino”. The sound has been described as “funk, jazz, futuristic 80s pop”. If he does indeed release the album on December 2nd, then the Australians will be the first to see him perform tracks form it live, as he is set to headline the Falls Festival and Field Day at the end of December and the beginning of the New Year.
