Kris Wu has been making waves in the Asian Hip Hop scene over the last few years.
As the poster boy of Asian Trap, the rapper, model and actor has perfectly executed the cross bridge between US Hip Hop culture and the Asian fandom which resonates so strongly with the Hip Hop world.
Earlier this year, his breakout single 'Juice' gained him attention in the US market for cleverly infusing Hip Hop style and masterfully tying in his Chinese roots but this time, he has topped his previous single with a new track featuring Houston rap star Travis Scott.
Speaking to Zane Lowe about the collaboration, Kris Wu revealed how organic the process was, explaining that he had a sound camp with a few producers, one of which invited Travis Scott to his studio in LA so that the two could collaborate in person and create the right chemistry on this track.
The song which is currently #15 trending song on Youtube starts off like it could be a Pop song and then explodes into a Trap infused track coupled with fast rhymes and a catchy hook. Travis effortlessly puts his American stamp on the track with a quick but effective verse which can only be described as song-rap.
The collaboration is likely to bring two parallel fanbases together and continues to prove Hip Hop’s ability to bring together people from different walks of life. The track will no doubt have huge success in the Asian music market with Kris Wu who typically does well in the continent. The Asian star is likely to attract new US fans who will appreciate the Trap infusion.
