Lecrae is one of the most popular rappers in the Christian world.
A supremely talented MC who is known for his slick flows and hard hitting lyrics, Lecrae cemented the approval of the Hip Hop world with his insane ‘Five Fingers of Death’ freestyle on popular Hip Hop radio show ‘Sway In The Morning’ in 2014:
With hits like ‘All I Need Is You’ featuring Mali Music which have amassed over six million views, the Reach Records rapper is able to spread the Christian message through the powerful medium that is music and touch a generation. His hard work was recognised on one of the biggest stages in music when he was awarded the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song in 2015 for his song ‘Messenger.’ On what seems like an unlikely collaboration, the rapper reveals that his new song with Ty Dolla $ign called ‘Blessings’ came into fruition because of its timing: ‘I think it’s the right season, the right time, and I’ve done stuff with a lot of people, but I’m grateful to do this.”
The powerful lyrics in the song focus on being grateful for what we have despite life’s challenges – something all of us can relate to. Ty Dolla $ign sings on the hook: I won’t ever think I’m better than the next man / I’ve been down before, to come up on the stressin’ / Baby, I’m too busy counting all these blessings.”
Along with the song, Lecrae also unleashed a lyric video for “Blessings.” Aside from the rhymes, the clip features childhood photos and artistic visual effects. As part of the “Blessings” rollout, he posted videos of famous speeches and interviews that were based around faith on his Instagram.
Clearly, Lecrae has been inspired by some of the greatest artists in history and this is track represents more than just a song, it’s an appreciation for the small blessings we all have in life. He is one of the most prominent Christians in the music industry who isn’t afraid to put his faith first and spread positivity through his music. From Grammy award wins to growing mainstream Hip Hop collaborations and support, Lecrae is a man on the rise. Watch out for him.
