‘I’m Better’ is the first release of 2017 for Missy and is accompanied by very futuristic visuals. Directed by Missy and her long time-time collaborator Dave Myers, the pair created an innovative video for those who enjoy Missy’s action filled visuals.
The video uses hard hitting choreography by Sean Bankhead, who also choreographed Missy Elliot’s unexpected release ‘WTF (Where They From)’ last year. There are clear dystopian influences throughout the video; the liquid portal the dancers fall into which then leads into an underwater dance sequence is an example of this. The creativity of the music video matches the song perfectly, Missy recently told Fact Magazine “I wanted it to be art”. She has undoubtedly proven her ability to create art through her experimental music videos.
The song arguably uses the popular “Migos Flow” while still remaining exclusive to Missy and her legendary style. ‘I’m Better’ also features Grammy nominated producer Cainon Lamb, who makes his rap debut on the song. Lamb is known for working with artists like Beyoncé; producing her hit ‘Countdown’, Jazmine Sullivan and many more.
It is great to see Missy back and continuing to innovate. She recently announced the release of her documentary, which will give her fans an insight into her career. The documentary will also be exploring the transgression of music over time with industry companions Pharrell and Busta Rhymes; see the trailer below:
