His name is behind some incredible tracks including ‘Firefly’ featuring NAO, ‘Lovesick’ featuring ASAP Rocky and ‘All Around The World’ featuring Desiigner. However, despite collaborations with some of our generation’s brightest stars such as Charlie XCX, the man behind the beats has been very cautious about how to reveal himself up until now.
Throwing himself into the limelight through handpicked interviews and a pop up event in London to celebrate the release of his new album, the electronic producer has put together a body of work which represents his eclectic genre - blending music taste.
Having been a BBC Music Sound of 2016 nominee, there was heavy anticipation for this album. The Isle of Man native has shown that in modern music, the best artists cannot be boxed by genre boundaries. On the track ‘FireFly’ he collaborates with R&B songstress NAO to produce what could be described as an electronic/pop record. Interestingly, Masa also teams up with NAO’s Tokyo Records signee Tom Tripp on the track ‘Helpline.’ He recruits upbeat New York rapper Desiigner for the catchy track ‘All Around The World.’ Perhaps one of the best collaborations on the album is his track ‘What If I Go?’ featuring the iconic vocals of Bonzai, his long-term collaborator and friend. The video for the track is a heart-warming ode to the London city and young love.
The standout track of the album has to be ‘Lovesick’ featuring New York rapper ASAP Rocky. The bouncy number will have heads nodding to the fast pace drums and is a versatile track with lots of replay value.
Overall, a solid debut for the producer who is beginning to make a real name for himself. His uniqueness and ability to carve his own lane should keep him in good stead for the future. Listen to ‘Mura Masa’ on Spotify below:
