Following this years release of Smino’s debut album ‘blkswn’ which saw critical success and earned him a place as Apple’s ‘New Artist of the Week’, the St Louis-born rapper has been busy bringing his music to life with live performances.
He first dominated the stage on TDE-songstress SZA’s ‘Ctrl’ tour with Ravyn Lenae. More recently, Smino joined hip-hop icon and auto-tune pioneer T-Pain on his North America acoustic tour. The tour was in high demand after T-Pain went viral early this year with his unexpected NPR Tiny Desk Concert - the Florida-native surprised fans with stripped-down versions of some of his biggest hits. The video currently stands at over 11 million views. More recently he released his fifth solo studio album ‘Oblivion’, featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Chris Brown and more. He told fans he wanted to ‘do something different’ and he's doing just that - enlisting rappers Smino and Felly to accompany him on tour.
Smino and T-Pain put their spare-time together to good use, presenting fans with a new take on Smino’s hit single ‘Anita’, whilst on tour. On the fresh track, T-Pain’s light-hearted lyrics and hypnotic flow weave through zesty production and smooth vocals provided by Smino. T-Pain’s signature style and use of auto-tune brings a whole new dimension to the song. The rappers left fans pleased, although they didn’t stop there - they recently re-connected with new visuals for the song, where the duo’s chemistry is prevalent. The pair rock colourful clothes, big shades and gold grills all while they laugh, dance, and sing, surrounded by women.
Both artists have had an impressive 2017, and we look forward to seeing what they have in store for us in the future.
