Jay Z's Roc Nation management label has gained some notoriety over the last few years for signing some of sports biggest icons.
Standing at the intersection between Sports, Music and Culture, the management group owned by Hip Hop mogul Jay Z has taken under its wing young black talent, helping them secure lucrative deals, ensure financial freedom and cement their statuses as elites on and off the field.
The latest addition to the roster is none other than Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku. The Manchester United forward will become the first ever premier league player to sign to the talent agency Roc Nation Sports. In a recent game against Bournemouth, the player hinted at the deal by celebrating his 70th-minute goal with Roc Nation’s diamond-shaped salute. The Belgian player will follow on from Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng who joined in 2015.
Other sports stars signed to the same management group include Golden State Warriors’ player Kevin Durant and Ndamukong Suh of the Miami Dolphins. Founded in 2013, it is clear that Jay Z's messages to the black community about financial security from his 4:44 album are backed up by actions, with the company's aim being to fight against the notorious trend of talented young athletes who often go broke after their careers have ended due to financial mismanagement.
It's an exciting time for Lukaku, in the prime of his career, leading the line for arguably the biggest football club in the world going into the World Cup this summer, the move should give him just the boost he needs to secure international stardom.
