Solange’s artistic style has always been a great asset to her music and it is great to see Solange using her creative direction to educate as well as produce thought provoking content.
“Seventy States” which is described as a “digital interactive dossier”, explores black womanhood, identity and additional concepts from Solange’s ‘A Seat At The Table’ music videos. In an interview with Tate Modern, Solange stated: “ Black womanhood has been at the root of my entire existence” and continues, “ I decided to do this through a visual language, to create a meditation using movement, colour theory and landscape, as my own individual protest”.
The exhibit was created in collaboration with Carlota Guerra to accompany the gallery’s ‘A Soul Of A Nation: Art In The Age Of Black Power’ and can be seen on the Tate Modern website.
