A student from South West London has nailed her education crowdfunding drive - with an added touch from Stormzy. Fiona Asiedu set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise the £12,000 she needed to cover the cost of a Masters programme in Human Development and Psychology at Harvard Graduate School of Education.

A friend of Fiona’s shared her campaign on Twitter, and asked for retweets to get Stormzy’s attention. The power of the internet came to her aid and Stormzy retweeted the appeal to his 695,000 followers.

After that, the artist took it a step further by making a £9,000 lump donation. He made it on the crowdfunding site under the name of Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Junior, and his PR team confirmed that the donation was made by Stormzy.

On her campaign page, Oxford University student Fiona writes that she is “particularly interested in psychological development of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, specifically ethnic minorities and those from working class backgrounds”.

She continues: “Studying Human Development and Psychology will equip me with the knowledge and skills necessary to generate effective interventions, particularly targeted at young people, to uphold healthy psychological development within this community.”

The total cost of Fiona’s nine months at the prestigious university adds up to £59,000. Fortunately, she has applied for and received an external scholarship and financial aid from the department she will be studying in, leaving her to raise the rest.

Fiona and her friend looked pretty grateful after receiving the donation, offering to take Stormzy out for a Nando’s to say thank you.
