It’s been the most anticipated drop of the year so far, and with it Migos have asserted themselves at the top of the culture, from the streets.
Migos is an American Hip Hop group from Atlanta, Georgia. They formed back in 2009 and consist of three members known as Quavo, Takeoff and Offset. Their first major hit was the famous “Versace” track in 2013, and released several successful tracks such as “Look At My Dab” and “Bad and Boujee” last year. In 2015 they released their first album Yung Rich Nation, and today the group has released their second album Culture. The project has been widely anticipated as the group’s stock has risen in recent months via shout outs from the likes of Chance The Rapper and Donald Glover. This album is set to bring in a stream of rave reviews and cement them at the top of the thriving Atlanta Hip Hop scene.
However, this level of success was not always guaranteed. In 2015, the group was arrested at Georgia Southern University for possession of marijuana and another controlled substance, possession of firearms within a school safety zone, possession of firearms during the commission of a crime, and possession of firearms by convicted felons. It seemed that their budding careers would not survive the investigations.
After a significant period in custody, Offset was released in December 2015 after accepting an Alford plea deal which dropped the gun, drug and gang related charges in return for pleading guilty to inciting a riot, serving five years in probation, paying $1,000 as a fine and complete banishment from three Counties. Takeoff accepted the same deal and was sentenced to 12 months probation. Quake pleaded no contest to the charges and received a 12 month prison sentence - which was consequently suspended via the payment of substantial fines.
A year later, Kanye West announced that he had signed Migos to his GOOD Music label, under Def Jam Recordings and it would seem that the rest, is history.
