Fresh from his a mini-tour performing in the US and Europe, the South London-based producer and beat maker Tom Misch has returned to the scene with a track that is a groovy as ever. The track 'South of the River' has been teased for the last year in some of Tom's DJ sets but is finally available to stream today (05/07/17).
Keakie favourite and East London rapper Barney Artist has teased a 'North of the River remix' on Instagram that is 'coming very soon' and is set to pair his smooth bars and charismatic style with Tom's track.
The track features the melodic and groovy guitar riffs that Tom has become famous for since Berlin-based beat maker Iamnobodi shared one of his tracks way back in 2012. Since then, Tom has released two mixtapes, conveniently labelled as 'Beat Tape 1' and 'Beat Tape 2'.
He has assembled a collection of new artists who have a similar soulful sound, many of whom feature on Beat Tape 2 or feature Tom on their own albums. On 'Beat Tape 2', Tom featured both the soul-rooted R&B singer Jordan Rakei on 'Wake Up This Day' which has over 4.5 million streams on Spotify and Zak Abel, the upcoming singer most known for his featured appearances with Gorgon City, Avicii and Wretch 32. Frequent collaborators include Carmody and Loyle Carner, who just recently played at Glastonbury and has released his debut album "Yesterday's Gone".
"South of the River" is the first single Tom has officially released since early 2016 but the producer has released a steady stream of new songs, most recent the five singles that form part of the '5 Day Mischon', which was recorded over five consecutive days at his home studio and featured instrumentalists like Kaidi Akinnibi and upcoming grime star Novelist. A behind the scenes video was released on Youtube earlier this year which documents the journey.
